Oman, Qatar sign two agreements

MUSCAT — Oman and Qatar yesterday agreed on hallmarking, standardisation and control of precious stones and metals.

The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) yesterday at the end of the Omani-Qatari Joint Committee meeting that was presided over by Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Romhi, Oman’s minister of oil and gas, and Abdullah bin Hamed Al Attiyah, Qatari deputy prime minister and energy and industry minister.

Al Attiyah underlined the keenness of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and Qatari Emir His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

Al Attiyah said the joint committee discussed a number of issues related to enhancing cooperation in trade, economy, education, health, security and environment sectors. “As part of strengthening cooperation between the two countries, the joint committee will meet twice every year,” he said.

Oman Oil Company (OOC) also signed an MoU with Qatar Petroleum International (QPI) yesterday. The companies also signed another MoU to pursue opportunities that are mutually beneficial. The MoU was signed by Nasser Khalil Al Jaidah, chief executive of QPI, and his counterpart in OOC Ahmed bin Salim Al Wahaibi.

Al Wahaibi said Oman Oil is happy to join hands with Qatar Petroleum for its pursuit of global opportunities. “This is an exciting opportunity for Oman Oil to advance its relations with Qatar and the establishment of a long-term partnership with Qatar Petroleum.”

Al Jaidah said the MoU demonstrates the growing relationship between the two countries and QPI’s ambition of becoming a leading global energy company. The agreement offers new area of investment and growth and a step forward in reaching QPI’s goals.
