Humaira promises musical treat today

MUSCAT — One of the topmost Pakistani pop and film singers Humaira Arshad will perform today at Al Falaj Hotel as Pakistan Social Club continues to host one big event after the other.

“I bring Pakistani talent to Muscat and hope my audience will like my performance,” was how Humaira responded to a question while talking to Times of Oman yesterday.

Humaira has been in the entertainment industry for quite some time now with both her albums Choori kach di and Dholna gal sun have proved to be big hits. A versatile singer, she has received formal music training from her guru Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

“Yes I have been greatly inspired by Khan sahib who was a legendary singer. I count myself lucky to have received my music training from Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and learnt a lot about professional singing from him,” she said during an informal discussion of Pakistani music scene over lunch yesterday.

The proof of her versatility lies in the type of music she has produced. From pop music to ghazal and film songs, Humaira has sung them all and sung well. Having delivered the super hit fast song like Choori kach di, Humaira appears to be at her best when she sings a soft number like Wass way dhola toon akhiyan de kol kol. Like other modern Pakistani singers, Humaira too is multilingual and can sing in either of Urdu, Punjabi and English languages. In her second album she looks equally at ease singing the fast Punjabi number Dholna gal sun and the melodious and evergreen Noor Jehan Urdu song Sada’a hoon apne pyar ki.

When asked how the music industry was faring in the country she said: “These are not good times for showbiz or music industry. You can see a surfeit of new singers but there are no takers. In the backdrop of political turmoil, the concept of entertainment has changed. Everything is revolving around politics these days. Political talk shows on all TV channels have replaced other means of entertainment.

Almost all the TV channels are focussing on programmes based on politics. You can see anchors mushrooming everywhere. Even comedy sitcoms are revolving around political subjects alone. I really hope that these TV channels will start to produce and support quality music once again as film industry is already struggling to survive.”

Young and energetic Humaira is married to the country’s hottest model Ahmed Butt, currently representing Pakistan in the most beautiful man world competition. Together they make one of the hottest couples in the country.

“It is a matter of both pride and honour that Ahmed is among the most beautiful men in the world, ranked even higher than Salman Khan,” she added. Butt has a body that is every young man’s dream.

Likely to perform to a packed house today, Humaira promises to offer a musical treat to her listeners. Those who have seen her performances before cannot be anywhere else today.

“Entry will be through invitation cards and audience is requested to come on time as the programme will start on time,” said Jameel Ahmed Rana, PSC general secretary, while also thanking Qaiser Rafiq and Tahir Malik for their active support in organising the event.
