State Council discusses effects of global financial crisis on Oman

MUSCAT — The State Council yesterday held its second meeting of the fourth term under the chairmanship of Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri.

Dr Mantheri appreciated the efforts and initiatives of the members of the State Council, which contributed effectively to improving the work of the council. He also commended the active role played by the secretariat in providing support and assistance to the State Council.

The meeting continued its discussion on the items listed on the agenda including the proposed establishment of a special committee to study the repercussions of the global financial crisis on the economic status of the Sultanate.

The meeting also discussed a report on the setting up of two committees proposed, namely Media and Information and Science and Technology. A report on the participation of the State Council at the Interim Arab Parliament held in Damascus from November 7-9 also came up for discussion in the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, the chairman expressed his thanks and appreciation, on behalf of the council, to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and prayed to Allah to enable all to work for achieveing the national objectives.
