Relief materials for war-hit

MUSCAT — The Oman Charitable Organisation (OCO) airlifted the second consignment of 88 tonnes of relief materials to Al Areesh City yesterday for onward transportation to war-hit Gaza.

The first consignment of 140 tonnes of foodstuff, 47 tonnes of medicines, 44 tonnes of drinking water and 22 tonnes of oxygen equipment, medical supplies and other logistics arrived in Al Areesh airport on Tuesday.

The Relief Committee at the Omani Charitable Organisation (OCO) yesterday held a meeting under the chairmanship of Khalil bin Abdullah Al Khonji, chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and head of the relief committee at OCO, in the presence of Ahmed bin Rashid Al Ma’amari, undersecretary in the Ministry of Social Development.

The committee said it is meeting continuously to oversee the urgent human relief operations to Gaza Strip, delivered directly to them by OCO team which comprises OCO’s chief executive and members of Oman’s embassy in Egypt and the OCO’s office in Gaza Strip. The committee stressed the need for cooperation between the public and private sector in organising relief operations. It said that it is the only authorised and responsible committee for collecting donations in the Sultanate, and dispatching and distributing them directly among the needy people in Gaza Strip.
