Oman to take part in Boston seafood fare

BOSTON — The Sultanate will take part at Boston Seafood Exhibition, due to be held in the US from March 15. The exhibition will last for three days.

The Sultanate’s 600sq.ft pavillion will accommodate five Omani companies besides Omani Centre for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Ociped), the Fisheries Ministry, represented by the Directorate-General of Fisheries.

Ayman bin Hassan Ambosaidi, director of exports development at Ociped, said the Boston Seafood Exhibition is one of north America’s mega exhibitions as it attracts major fish importers in north America and Europe.

The Sultanate’s participation follows its success at the 2007-2008 exhibition, he added. “Eighty-eight per cent of the exhibition’s visitors have buying potentials and 76 per cent are planning to buy from the exhibition. A variety of seafoods, including the fresh and frozen fish, lobster, and tuna, will be exhibited,” he added.

“The Sultanate will try to capitalise from the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the USA, by enabling the Omani fish exports to access the US. Markets without import charges, which is a competitive advantage, particularly, 60 per cent of frozen seafoods, 45 per cent of fresh seafoods, 21 per cent of aquaculture farms and 14 per cent of candid seafood, will be purchased from the exhibition,” he pointed out.
