HM, Qatari crown prince discuss measures to promote cooperation

MUSCAT — His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said gave Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, crown prince of Qatar an audience at Bait Al Barakah here yesterday.

During the audience, Sheikh Tamim conveyed the greetings and best wishes of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, emir of Qatar, to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

His Majesty the Sultan reciprocated the gesture by asking Sheikh Tamim to convey his greetings and wishes of good health to Sheikh Hamad. His Majesty and Sheikh Tamim reviewed aspects of cooperation between the two sides in various domains in addition to reviewing a number of issues of mutual concern.

The meeting was attended from the Omani side by Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, minister of the Diwan of the Royal Court; Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, minister responsible for foreign affairs; Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, minister of commerce and industry; Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Romhi, minister of oil and gas, and Rashid bin Mubarak Al Ghailani, the Sultanate’s ambassador to Qatar. It was attended from the Qatari side by Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, deputy prime minister and minister of energy and industry; Fahd bin Jasim bin Mohammed Al Thani, minister of business and trade; Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani, director of the crown prince’s office; Abdullah bin Eid Al Sulaiti, acting director of the prime minister’s office; Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khatir, Qatari ambassador to the Sultanate, and Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al Thani.

His Majesty the Sultan hosted a special luncheon at Bait Al Barakah yesterday in honour of Sheikh Tamim and his delegation.

A joint meeting was held at Al Bustan Palace Hotel here yesterday between the Omani and Qatari ministers.

From the Omani side, the session was attended by Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, minister responsible for foreign affairs; Maqbool bin Ali bin Sultan, minister of commerce and industry; Dr Rawiyah bint Saud Al Busaidiyah, minister of higher education; Dr Rajiha bint Abdulamir bin Ali, minister of tourism, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri, minister of manpower.

From the Qatari side, Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, deputy prime minister, minister of energy and industry, and Sheikh Fahd bin Jasim bin Mohammed Al Thani, minister of business and trade.

Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah affirmed after the meeting that His Majesty the Sultan and Sheikh Hamad are very keen on pushing forward the bilateral relations.

“The bilateral relations are distinguished in all fields,” he added.

Attiyah pointed out that the Oman-Qatar Joint Committee will meet in March to discuss measures to promote tourism, manpower, education, energy issues and joint investments.

Sheikh Tamim and his delegation left yesterday and they were seen off by Sayyid Fahd, a number of ministers, the Sultanate’s ambassador to Qatar, head of Protocols Department at the Foreign Ministry, the dean of the Diplomatic Corps, the AGGC ambassadors to the Sultanate, senior officers of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) and the Royal Oman Police (ROP).
