Majlis meet reviews education march

MUSCAT — The Majlis Al Shura yesterday held the sixth session of its second annual sitting under the chairmanship of Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Isa’ee in the presence of Yahya bin Saud Al Sulaimi, education minister, members and secretary-general of the Majlis Al Shura and a number of officials at the Education Ministry.

Al Isa’ee delivered a speech in which he reviewed the education march in the Sultanate and the qualitative improvements and achievements made, as well as the high levels of performance it has reached under the royal care of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

After that, the education minister read out a statement during which he reviewed the efforts undertaken to develop the school education in the Sultanate in general and the first and second cycle of basic education in particular, as well as the post-basic education (Grade 11 and 12).

After reading out the statement, the floor was open for discussion between the minister and members of the Majlis Al Shura on the different axes of the statement, particularly those related to developing basic education from the first to the Xth grade.

The discussion also covered the challenges still facing the first and second cycle of basic education, as well as the efforts undertaken by the ministry to address them and the studies conducted in this regard.

The members also covered the features of developing Grade 11 and 12 and the proposed plan by the Ministry for Education in these two grades with regard to curricula, teaching staff, assessment techniques, examinations and vocational training.

The Majlis Al Shura also discussed in its session the report of the social and health affairs committee, including the outcomes and recommendations for its study for treatment abroad.

At the end of the session, the Majlis Al Shura decided to refer the report back to expert committee to conduct more investigation and research on the issue.
