Gerry upbeat about EFQM model success in Oman

MUSCAT — “If EFQM Excellence model is implemented in the state administrative systems in the Sultanate, it has a great chance of success,” stated Gerry O’Connell, president of the Fireball Group of Companies, while speaking to the media on the sidelines of the tow-day EFQM Excellence model workshop, organised by the State Council at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque auditorium yesterday.

“It has a great chance of success if the senior managers are committed to the process and get involved. The management team develops an improvement plan using the findings of the self-assessment. The outcomes are linked to the usual planning processes,” Gerry highlighted.

Gerry and Peter Hillman of TQMI, a London-based consultancy firm, are the key-note speakers at the two-day workshop.

Gerry noted that the governments throughout the world trying to identify how they can provide better services to their citizens using the EFQM model.

“The whole world, for the last 30 years, has been moving towards quality service and the private sector has been stressing on how they can give better services to the customers,” he said.

EFQM was established in 1988 by the CEOs of 14 major European companies and it has now expanded outside Europe with over 800 members. “Today it is followed in US, Australia, the UK and the UAE,” he pointed out. Gerry was instrumental in developing the UK’s best police force using the EFQM model.

He added that he along with Hillman would explain the government officials of Oman on how it could be applied to the government services through a programme.

“We will explain the government officials of Oman who are present at this workshop on how this model operates, its concepts, and basic functions and secondly how these basic forms can be applied to government services,” Gerry added.
