Foreign investments up

MUSCAT — The flow of foreign direct investment to Oman marked 54.6 per cent growth in 2007, said Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki, minister of national economy and deputy chairman of the Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council, yesterday. The total volume of all kinds of foreign investment in the Sultanate amounted to RO9,433.7 million in 2007, compared to RO6,223.4 million in 2006. He was disclosing the figures of the Foreign Investment Survey 2007, conducted by the Ministry of National Economy in coordination with the Central Bank of Oman (CBO).

Macki said that 41.5 per cent of foreign direct investment activity is concentrated in the oil and gas sector, followed by industry and financial brokerage, which have added 17.3 per cent, and 17.1 per cent of foreign direct investment volume respectively.
