Royal decree amends Law of Advocacy

MUSCAT— His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said has issued two Royal Decrees.

Royal Decree No. 140/2008 amends the Law of Advocacy (Royal Decree No.108/96).

Article 1 says that the text of the clause 66 of the Royal Decree No 108/96 will be replaced by the following text:

Clause 66 excludes the Omani advocates from the provisions of the clause 6 till the date which will be specified by the Council of Ministers as per the request of the minister of justice.

The Council of Ministers will also specify, as per the request of the Ministry of Justice, the date after which non-Omanis who are practising at present at primary courts or other similar level courts, appeal courts or supreme courts or working in Omani lawyers’ offices, will not be allowed to attend or refer cases in courts. This will not, however, breach the provisions of clause No. 68.

The decree will be published in the official gazette and it will come into force from the date of its issue.

Royal Decree No. 141/2008 makes some amendments to the Special Law on Sohar Development Office (Royal Decree No. 9/97).

Article 1 says that the attached amendments will be applicable to the Special Law on Sohar Development Office.

Article 2 cancels all that contravene the decree or contradict with its provisions.

The decree will be published in the official gazette and it comes into force from the date following its publication.
