Indian company wins $400 million contract

MUSCAT — Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has bagged a $400 million (Rs20 billion) contract from Petroleum Development Oman to erect and commission a series of 126 mega watt gas turbine generators for various power projects. The rate contract had been secured in the face of stiff international competition, the company said. The contract will initially be valid for six years with a provision for further extension by another three years with mutual agreement, during which PDO can buy additional units from BHEL. While gas turbines and associated equipment will be manufactured and supplied by BHEL’s Hyderabad plant, the state-of-the-art control systems will be manufactured and supplied by BHEL’s electronics division in Bangalore.
