Hearty welcome to leaders

MUSCAT — The Sultanate yesterday rolled out a red carpet welcome to the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council leaders who arrived here yesterday for the 29th AGCC summit, to be held under the chairmanship of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, at Al Bustan Palace Hotel.

Earlier on their arrival at the Royal Airport, the leaders were received by a welcoming party headed by His Majesty the Sultan.

The leaders, accompanied by His Majesty the Sultan, reviewed guard of honour before being ushered to their royal suites at Al Bustan Palace Hotel.

His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, deputy prime minister for the Council of Ministers; His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, minister of heritage and culture; Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, minister of the Diwan of Royal Court; General Ali bin Majid Al Ma’amari, minister of the Royal Office; Sayyid Badr bin Saud Al Busaidi, minister responsible for defence affairs; Sayyid Saud bin Ibrahim Al Busaidi, minister of interior; Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, minister responsible for foreign affairs; chairmen of the State Council and Majlis Al Shura, ministers, commanders of armed forces corps, Royal Oman Police and AGCC ambassadors to the Sultanate, and Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Attiyah, AGCC secretary-general, were all part of the welcoming delegation.

In a statement to reporters upon his arrival, UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan said that he was very happy to meet His Majesty the Sultan and other AGCC leaders.

He also stressed that the summit is of great importance as it coincides with important regional and international political and economic developments that require us to have joint visions that ensure unity of stance in addressing them.

“We are fully confident that the summit will reach some positive resolutions that enhance the achievements made by the cooperation march, moving forward to a new stage of joint action that serve the interests of the AGCC countries and meet the aspirations of their peoples,” he added.

Sheikh Khalifa also said that council’s march has made many tangible achievements over the past years in the different fields. He hoped that the summit will come out with more effective steps to promote the AGCC march leading to the welfare of AGCC citizens, peoples and further strengthen security of the region.

Sheikh Khalifa is accompanied by an official delegation comprising Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, crown prince of Dubai; Lieutenant-General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, interior minister; Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, presidency affairs minister; Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, foreign minister; Ubaid Humaid Al Tayir, state minister for financial affairs; Ahmed bin Juma Al Zaabi, deputy minister for presidency affairs, and Mohammed bin Ali Al Usaimi, UAE’s ambassador to the Sultanate.

The UAE president is accompanied by a mission of honour headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Ali Al Qatabi, minister of fisheries.

BAHRAIN King His Majesty Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in an arrival statement, expressed his thanks for His Majesty the Sultan and his delight to meet the AGCC leaders again in one of their important meetings.

King Hamad added that this brotherly meeting was a good opportunity to discuss all important issues on the wake of the new political and economic changes at the regional and international arenas which call for the wisdom on how to deal with them to ensure security and stability in the region, sustain the wellbeing and development of AGCC countries and protect the development achieved.

“Undoubtedly, the wisdom and experience of the AGCC leaders will direct us to take proper decisions on the summit agenda, including the joint march of the AGCC states, in security, military and economic fields, the human rights, the environment and the current regional and international political issues,” he added.

A mission of honour headed by Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, minister of environment and climate affairs, has been formed to accompany the king.

KUWAITI Emir His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jabr Al Sabah is accompanied by an official delegation including Sheikh Jabir Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah, first deputy prime minister and minister of defence; Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al Salim Al Sabah, deputy prime minister and foreign minister; Sheikh Ahmed Fahd Al Ahmed Al Sabah, chairman of the National Security Service; Ahmed Yaqob Baqer Al Abdullah, minister of commerce and industry and minister of state for Ummah Council Affairs; Engineer Mohammed Abdullah Hadi Al Aleem, oil minister, electricity and water minister; Mustafa Jassim Al Shamali, finance minister; Ahmed Fahd Al Fahd, director of the Emir’s Office; Sheikh Khalid Al Abdullah Al Sabah, chairman of Emiri Protocols and Shamlan Abdul Aziz Al Romi, the Kuwaiti ambassador to the Sultanate.

The emir is accompanied by a mission of honour headed by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Rowas, minister of regional municipalities and water resources.

QATARI Emir His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in a statement conveyed his greetings and that of the Qatari people to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the Omani people, wishing His Majesty good health and the Sultanate further progress and prosperity.

The emir also extended his greetings to the other AGCC leaders, hoping that the summit would achieve good results that would enhance the AGCC’s march, achieve integration of its members, aspirations of its people and further strengthen security, stability and wellbeing of the AGCC countries.

“Our summit is being held at a time when the besieged Palestinian people are being subjected to severe aggression by the Israeli forces, the thing that call us to take a clear stand against this aggression, so as to alleviate the sufferings of the brotherly Palestinian people,” he concluded.
